A car driver is essential for this position.

Sukhmani is a lovely 10-year-old young girl who lives with her mum, dad, and brother in Fenham Newcastle. Sukhmani has a diagnosis of Autism and is non-verbal; she communicates using picture cards and gestures. She will lead to indicate her needs and show you what she requires. Sukhmani is a happy, bubbly little girl who is looking to employ a personal assistant who can patiently and enthusiastically assist her to access the community and motivate her to enhance her own independence. The family regularly attends their local Temple where they enjoy lots of activities that the Sikh Temple provides. Sukhmani will require some personal care on occasion; however, she can independently manage most toileting needs and mealtimes. She does impulsively eat and drink anything that may be in her sights, so she always requires supervision to ensure she does not consume anything she should not be eating. Sukhmani can become disruptive or withdrawn if she becomes dysregulated, so we are seeking someone with experience in managing dysregulation and a background in Autism awareness and management. Sukhmani has no awareness of danger in all aspects of life and will require a vigilant eye and cannot be left unsupervised at any time. She enjoys sensory stimulation in the form of texture toys and water, Punjabi dancing, and music. She is currently learning how to swim and skate and enjoys some time on her technology gadgets. We would like someone with a good level of fitness who can assist Sukhmani to attend trampoline centres, wall climbing centres, and outdoor venues in nature or local parks where she can use her scooter. A non-smoker is required for this position due to allergens. For more information, please see the Job Description. There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
