The specialist school nursing team at Bedelsford school delivers nursing care to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex health needs. The specialist school nursing team forms part of the wider community nursing team for children with disabilities at Moor lane. The nursing team is part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities (ISCD), working across health, education, and social care. Please note this is a term-time position and the salary advertised will be pro rata. The primary place of work is Bedelsford school. Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive nurse to work within one of our special schools. You will be working in a small team within the school, alongside a nurse and two health care assistants, providing holistic, child and family-centered care for children and young people with SEND, PMLD, and complex health needs, ranging from 2 - 19 years of age. This is a dynamic role encompassing: Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of clinical nursing care; writing appropriate care plans to ensure safe and effective care delivery within the school setting. Delivery of specialist nursing care, including but not limited to administration of medication, gastrostomy management and enteral feeding, seizure management, suctioning, and tracheostomy care. Delivery of specialist training for families and school support staff. Multi-disciplinary liaison to ensure continuity of care and attendance at multi-professional meetings, including child protection case conferences. Provision of support to families, including signposting to specialist services and completing onward referrals for care. Providing health advice for education, health, and care plans. Mentoring and supporting junior staff and student nurses. You will be given the opportunity to develop a range of skills and knowledge within a diverse setting. About us

Qualifications

Registered Children’s Nurse (RN Child/RSCN). RGN will be considered with relevant experience. Evidence of continuous professional development. Teaching and assessing qualification (desirable). Community qualification (desirable). Experience

Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in nursing. Community/special school nursing experience. Experience working with children and young people with disabilities/complex health needs. Knowledge of statutory legislation (for example, Children’s Act) and national policy drivers that will affect children’s services and your role. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Experience supporting staff and students and providing supervision. Experience working with challenging families and ability to manage conflict. Ability to work independently and manage own workload with minimal supervision. Safeguarding knowledge and experience. Ability to work well as part of a team. Able to use a range of digital hardware or software to support your work effectively (i.e., Microsoft or Google software).
