We have a NEW and Exciting opportunity to join our very well established MSK Physiotherapy Team in Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Trust as a

Consultant Physiotherapist.

This is a new role for our service and organisation. You will work alongside our very experienced operational leadership team. You will be the clinical lead and clinical expert in the field of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy and fulfil the 4 pillars of practice in line with Health Education England's Multiprofessional Consultant-level practice capability and impact framework.

You will be working countywide in beautiful Worcestershire with rolling hills and lots of green spaces.

Main duties of the job

To be the clinical lead and clinical expert in the field of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy and fulfil the 4 pillars of practice in line with Health Education England's Multiprofessional Consultant-level practice capability and impact framework.

To be the clinical expert and strategic leader in the management of patients within the MSK service, developing and using advanced scope of practice. Practice at an expert clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. You will provide clinical and strategic leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in your clinical field. There is an expectation that up to 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, either having a clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of patients or providing side by side supervision and training for clinicians within this clinical area.

To act as a professional and values-based leader for the advanced practice MSK team supporting the operational running of the service, communication, and links with PCNs and Acute Services.

To act as a source of expertise on the management of MSK conditions through the MSK Pathway in Worcestershire.

Develop a local and national profile as a consultant level clinical lead, by being a creative and innovative leader in further developing services.

Job description

Job responsibilities Provide professional and clinical expert leadership and support for all MSK colleagues as appropriate. Be highly visible in the clinical areas. Act as an expert clinician for musculoskeletal related conditions acting in a consultancy role for other staff. Act as an excellent role model to musculoskeletal colleagues and provide expert advice, support, guidance, and education in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Work in an expert practitioner role administering highly complex advanced treatments safely and effectively according to Trust and Departmental SOPs, maintaining evidence of competence. Possess specialist clinical knowledge related to musculoskeletal care acquired through Masters level study which is supplemented by vast Specialist experience training. Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour consistent with Trust policy, Values and AHP guidelines. Participate in the implementation and delivery of the standards set within the advanced practice framework and contribute to the strategic agenda within the trust. Take a proactive role in shaping the development of services and pathways, engaging where appropriate with external agencies and commissioners. Identify and lead changes in practice and service delivery in accordance with evidence-based standards and policy, challenging traditional boundaries and current thinking and overcoming resistance and conflict at the Trust and local and national level. Allocate, coordinate, monitor and assess own workload and that of individuals or the service making adjustments to ensure consistent service delivery. Consult with other health care providers and public/independent agencies. Consult with other colleagues and services internally and externally to ensure an integrated approach. Uphold and safeguard individuals' interests and provide information on the risks, benefits, and potential outcomes of decisions about MSK care to facilitate shared decision-making, goal setting and agreement of a personalised care plan. Interpret and evaluate information from diverse sources to make informed judgements about its quality, appropriateness for practice and service delivery. Improve practice and health outcomes so that they are consistent with national and international standards through the management and facilitation of change. Be responsible for maintaining and disseminating knowledge and expertise within the trust. Seize opportunities to apply new knowledge to their own and others' practice in structured ways, which are capable of evaluation. Maintain a high profile within the Trust and outside, providing a strong contribution to the achievement of organisational goals and ambitions. Communicate regionally, on their areas of specialist knowledge. Recognise boundaries of own expert clinical practice as it develops and to manage associated clinical risks at all times.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential In-depth postgraduate experience, including experience in advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy at advanced practice level. Leadership qualification or significant experience of leading a team in a healthcare setting. Evidence of leading on audit, research and understanding quality issues. Evidence of leading on the departmental/pathway supervision and clinical education of students and less experienced staff. Evidence of working along an MSK Pathway from Primary to Secondary Care, and within different clinical environments. Evidence of successful service improvements within clinical area. Provide evidence of relevant published material.

Desirable Experience working within a Consultant AHP role.

Qualifications

Essential State Registration (HCPC). Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses. Relevant validated clinical courses. Experiential learning. Masters qualification in relevant subject. Post graduate qualification in musculoskeletal injection therapy. Evidence of x-ray, MRI and blood test interpretation. I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Desirable Post graduate leadership qualification.

Knowledge

Essential Highly Specialist knowledge of broad range of musculoskeletal conditions. Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning abilities. Ability to pass on advanced skills / highly specialist knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments. Up to date knowledge of professional practice and new research. Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession and knowledge of professional standards. Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear, concise and logical manner. Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services. Significant knowledge of national drivers in relation to MSK. Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety and meet the differing needs of the patient.
