ST JOHN’S HOSPITAL ACUTE & INTENSIVE CARE PSYCHIATRIC WARDS: 12 month contract

An exciting opportunity to join the NHS Lothian Arts Psychotherapies Service – a team comprising of over 30 Arts Psychotherapists working across all age groups and all localities served by NHS Lothian. For this role, Music Therapy is provided to Inpatient Acute and Intensive Care Psychiatric Wards at St. John’s Hospital - “The purpose of the ward is to keep people safe whilst providing assessment and treatment from the multidisciplinary team and to help people recover and return to their life outside hospital”. The successful applicant will join the Arts Psychotherapy Inpatient team and be embedded within a ward at SJH (open group or I:I sessions). They will be expected to respond flexibly to the complex mental health needs of people experiencing acute mental illness, and work as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team, contributing to systemic care planning, formulation and risk management. They may also have opportunities to do other roles within the Arts Psychotherapy service as they arise. This post is of interest to clinicians with experience of working with people with complex mental health needs. Training, development, clinical supervision and line management are provided by the Arts Psychotherapy Inpatient Team. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, creative in their approach and with previous experience of working with people in acute settings using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication. The post holder will be expected to work independently using their own initiative and be a team member, linking closely with other health professionals, visiting specialists, and families as appropriate. The post holder will also be required to provide line management and clinical supervision to Band 6 staff within the team. HCPC registration is essential.
