We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. An opening has arisen within the Directorate of Neurosciences for a Trust Doctor (ST3+) to start as soon as possible for 1 year with a possible extension.

We are looking for junior doctors with neurosurgical experience who are already at registrar level, or ready to work at registrar level in neurosurgery. Candidates should be familiar with the requirements of dealing with neurosurgical on-call referrals and ideally should have experience of the same. Ideally, candidates should be able to undertake emergency neurosurgical procedures independently.

You will undergo further training in the management of all aspects of neurosurgery. This will include not only theatre and in-patient management but also attendance at specialist clinics held within the Directorate on a regular basis. You will also undertake general neurosurgical duties, including participation in the neurosurgery registrar on-call rota and cross cover for colleagues on leave. Typical duties will include attendance at the morning handover meeting, specialist and general outpatient clinics, daily ward round, and attendance in operating theatres.

Clinical: This is a 1-year attachment with a possible extension in the Department of Neurosurgery. During this time, the successful candidate will undergo further training in the management of all aspects of neurosurgery. To support delivery of neurosurgical care by the Department of Neurosurgery, Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust, and allow the successful candidate to increase their knowledge and confidence in the management of patients in the field of neurosurgery, in line with the FRCS (Neuro.Surg) syllabus for specialist training stage. The successful candidate would participate in the academic programme of the Department and would be supported in preparation for the FRCS (Neuro.Surg) should they so wish.

The post holder will participate in the Neurosurgical ST3+ on-call rota. This rota is currently 1 in 10 full shift.
