Manage the triage telephone helpline providing support and advice to patients who are undergoing systemic anticancer treatment or radiotherapy within Swansea Bay health board. Up to date knowledge of systemic anti-cancer treatments and common toxicities is required. You will be expected to have exceptional telephone skills and may have to manage distressed patients and relatives in a calm caring manner. Co-located with the assessment unit you will be expected to liaise with the on-call and other members of the acute oncology team to ensure patients referred into the assessment unit are suitable and patients requiring more acute or surgical services are referred on the appropriate pathway. Cancer Services for people living within South West Wales are provided by the South West Wales Cancer Centre, based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea Bay University Health-Board, (SBUHB). Patients treated at the Cancer Centre come from the Swansea, Neath Port-Talbot areas, and Hywel Dda University Health-Board, some patients from the Bridgend area are also treated at the Centre. The area covered by the Cancer Centre includes a population of approximately 900,000 and over 3,500 patients are treated each annually with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, these numbers rise every year.
