Within the role of the Academy U7 to U16 Physiotherapist, you will be required to assist in the medical management, co-ordination and supervision of the U7’s-16’s players alongside the Academy Medical department, including all aspects of medical screening, injury assessment, diagnosis, management and prevention strategies in line with evidence-based practice. This job role is open to applicants of a physiotherapy, sports therapy or sports rehabilitation background.

To assist the Head of Academy Performance & Medical in the day-to-day running of the medical department, working as a mentor for the part-time staff. In addition to clinical responsibilities, there is a requirement to assist the effective planning and organisation of training, rehabilitation and matchday cover for all U7’s-16’s events.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

To deliver on the treatment and management of injuries sustained to all players in the U7’s to U16 age groups.

Work closely with the performance staff to co-ordinate and deliver evidence and performance-based rehabilitation programmes.

To assist in the co-ordination of the physiotherapy services for the U7’s-16’s age groups.

To standardise the management of injuries by assisting in the development and structure of injury rehabilitation protocols and philosophy.

To monitor the effectiveness of injury management principles through clinical injury audits and training availability.

To ensure effective, appropriate and thorough communication of injury updates are provided to the player, coaching staff and other relevant staff members.

To assist the Head of Academy Performance & Medical in the provision of therapy services across all age groups and to oversee the use of part-time physiotherapists and sports therapists in their provision of medical care to all players in the Academy.

To provide musculoskeletal screening/profiling for all Academy players and integrate this with the club medical records.

To lead the musculoskeletal screening/profiling for all U9’s to U16’s players and assist with the process for all Academy players and integrate this with the club medical records.

To work alongside the performance staff in order to deliver individualised effective injury prevention strategies in both individual and group sessions.

To liaise effectively with the Academy coaching staff on a daily basis in order to keep them informed of players’ availability for Academy matches and training.

To work alongside the performance staff in order to deliver first-class recovery and injury prevention strategies to all players both immediately after games and on recovery days.

To ensure all players are educated on the importance of recovery, health and athletic development.

To assist with pre-signing medical assessments of all Academy players and trialists as required including the writing of formalised pre-signing medical reports.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Sports Therapist, Sports Rehabilitation or higher degree

Member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent

Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP) or equivalent

Trauma Management Qualification (ATMMIF or equivalent).

Previous experience in a Sports Medical Position

Excellent Clinical Reasoning and manual therapy skills

Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

Excellent range of clinical treatment skills with an emphasis on rehabilitation

Excellence in the understanding and delivery of rehabilitation medicine from plinth to pitch

Set and maintain high standards of work performance and deliver quality consistently and effectively

A good understanding of the principles of human performance and how they relate to clinical sports medicine

A learning pathway showing the development of a strong evolving clinical paradigm in the field of Physiotherapy

Experience of working in Academy football

Knowledge of the EPPP requirements

Management skills to manage a multidisciplinary group of practitioners within the Academy Sports Science and Medicine departments

Competent in the use of IT software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PMA/Football Intelligence Platform.
