An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, experienced and motivated emergency nurses to join our team as a band 6 Senior Staff Nurse at the Princess Royal University Hospital Emergency Department. You must be a Registered Nurse with relevant Emergency department experience and have completed the ED Course. We provide care to patients from a diverse population and believe that the diversity of the local population is reflected in our staff and our recruitment strategy. We are seeking to recruit staff nurses who are flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about emergency care. This post would suit candidates that are committed, not only to their own development but in supporting and developing junior staff. Candidates must be highly motivated with good communication skills and possess the ability to work as part of a team in a challenging environment. Candidates must also express an interest in not only maintaining the quality of our patient care but also in improving it and supporting the senior team through quality assurance in the department. Main duties of the job

To work within both the nursing and multi-disciplinary team to provide evidence-based, holistic care to a group of patients from admission to discharge. To take responsibility for managing and coordinating the ward in the absence of more senior staff. To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student nurses as required. To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide patients and relatives with high-quality nursing care. Particular emphasis is put at Kings on the need to ensure that all staff recognize their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient-focused manner maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Clinical Practice To deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to a specified group of patients. To adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times. To be responsible for the nursing management of a group of patients, using the nursing process. To maintain confidentiality at all times. To support patients, relatives, carers and friends and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patient. To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying each opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle. To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in order to ensure that patients' needs are met and that services are delivered in accordance with National Service Frameworks and agreed Clinical Care Guidelines. To ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times, including patient handovers. To promote the well-being of children and young people and safeguard them from actual or potential harm and report concerns under the Trust Safeguarding Children/Child Protection Procedures. To accurately identify those children and vulnerable adults at risk of abuse. Management To act as a role model at all times. To exercise leadership where appropriate. To anticipate day-to-day staffing problems and take appropriate action in conjunction with the team leader, sister/charge nurse and head of nursing, to ensure good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. To give support and advice to junior ward staff on both clinical and administrative problems. To keep the ward sister/charge nurse informed of significant changes in the day-to-day situation in the department. Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

1st level Registered General Nurse. Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification. Emergency Department courses relevant to the clinical area. Knowledge and Experience

Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area. Skills and Competencies

Communication skills - able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results. Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust £42,939 to £50,697 a year (Per annum, including High Cost Area).
