Main duties of the job The post holder will provide elective care for patients with benign LGI conditions: inflammatory bowel disease and abdominal wall reconstruction. The LGI department also supports the gynaecology oncology service and endometriosis service, and the post holder will have the opportunity to develop these collaborations further. Recently, the service has expanded to facilitate longer stays for patients with more complex conditions.
As part of a service reconfiguration, colorectal cancer resectional surgery is planned to be delivered from Worthing Hospital, with colorectal cancer surgeons taking part in the on-call rota and emergency surgery provision in Brighton. This reconfiguration will eventually enable the formation of a single colorectal surgery department across the Trust, of which the post holder would be a key member.
