The post holder will gain a wide range of experience in all aspects of work within the Acute Medicine Department. They will be expected to work as a middle grade doctor covering all clinical areas of the Department. There will be a Consultant available for advice/supervision at all times. During this time the post holder will work primarily in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and in the SDEC (AEC / MRU / AMRA) as well as providing support as needed on the Short Stay Unit. A tailored rotation will also include work on both sites of the Trust offering experience in a District General Hospital Environment at County Hospital and in addition to the tertiary centre environment offered by the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Participation in out of hours / on call work is expected on a pro-rota basis and will be re numerated according to the terms and conditions set out in this contract. Supporting professional activities: There is time specifically set aside for academic work education, audit and management development - this will form 1 session per week. Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent Full GMC registration Advanced Life Support certificate MRCP part 1 or equivalent Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree Commitment to obtaining a higher qualification MRCP Clinical Experience
4 years postgraduate training (at least two years will need to have included Acute Medicine commitments) At least 12 months experience at middle grade level in Medicine in the NHS or equivalent Evidence of safe, sound clinical practices Experience of teaching medical students and Foundation trainees/SHO Experience of supervising junior medical staff Experience teaching clinical skills Critical Care Experience Skills
Experience in audit Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively Competence in safely and independently performing lumbar punctures, ascitic drains and pleural aspirations Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals Good standard of written and verbal English Competence in safely and independently inserting Seldinger chest drains Competence in safely and independently inserting central venous lines Personal Characteristics
