We are currently seeking a flexible and dynamic Specialist Doctor in Stroke Medicine to support our existing team of Consultants within the Clinical Service Centre of Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation and Stroke. The Stroke Service provides a comprehensive range of services to adult stroke patients (all ages) and is one of the largest units in the country. The service encompasses hyper acute stroke, acute stroke, rehabilitation and TIA clinic services. Early supported discharge and on-going stroke rehabilitation is also delivered by our nationally recognised Community Stroke Rehab Team. This post will be based at Queen Alexandra Hospital and is available on a full time basis, initially for a one year fixed term contract, between the hours of 9am and 5pm (actual hours are negotiable.) While initially supporting the hyper acute and thrombolysis pathway, depending on experience and personal interests, there will also be the opportunity to contribute to stroke service developments, such as pathway improvements and developing new pathways for the future. Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation and Stroke provides a very comprehensive range of specialist services including acute geriatrics, stroke care, specialist rehabilitation and palliative care. Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Specialist Grade Doctor in Stroke Medicine to work alongside 6 other Consultants (some locum) in a well-motivated team. There is ample opportunity and encouragement to pursue research, improvement projects, teaching, and supervision. The post holder will be doing a 1 in 7 on call rota alongside working with the MDT daily in the Stroke Unit to provide high quality care for our broad patient demographic. The post holder will be expected to contribute to education and supervision of our medical team. The post holder will need to triage and review patients in the TIA clinic through the week alongside the ward-based responsibilities. While on call, the post holder will need to review and support our Stroke Nurse Specialists in the Emergency Department, and then remotely out of hours. While the current plan is for this post to be done solely in Portsmouth, there will be scope, if desired, to spend time at our partner site in the Isle of Wight. Job responsibilities

The Specialist Doctor in Stroke Medicine will be responsible for the management of Stroke patients along our care pathways. They will be part of a team of Stroke Consultants (some of whom are currently locum) managing hyper-acute & acute Stroke patients, TIA clinics, and regular Multidisciplinary team meetings. They will be required to contribute to a 1 in 7 on-call rota. Responsibility for the ongoing management, diagnosis, and treatment of illness for a number of inpatients with Stroke or Stroke mimic symptoms. Provision of and responsibility for a comprehensive Acute Stroke and Stroke Rehabilitation Service with Consultant colleagues. Attend and contribute actively to departmental thrombolysis meetings, taking responsibility for actions where appropriate. Take responsibility for the associated administration related to the management of patients. Senior clinicians are expected to demonstrate Trust values throughout their day-to-day work being respectful and civil to colleagues. Out-of-hours responsibilities through participation in Acute Stroke and Thrombolysis on-call rota (1 in 7). Cover for colleagues annual leave and other authorised absences. Clinical supervision of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures. Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity, both locally and nationally. Participating in medical audit and the Trusts Clinical Governance processes. Ensuring to remain updated with regular education and CPD. The post holder must always carry out his/her duties with due regard to the Trusts Diversity and Inclusion Policies. Qualifications

Full GMC registration with a full medical licence to practice. Primary medical degree recognised by the GMC. Full MRCP. Post graduate Certificate or higher for Medical Education. Specialty Certificate examination. Experience

6 Years minimum of Stroke Experience and training. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
