We are seeking an individual who has sound knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities. About The Organization: Recognized throughout Renfrew County as a leader in child and youth mental health, The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families provides innovative treatment and therapeutic services for children, youth and families experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges. As a registered charity and not-for-profit agency, Phoenix has been in operation for over 45 years and is funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Our mission is to improve the lives of children, youth, and their families through the provision of mental health services based on clinical excellence, collaboration, partnerships, and system leadership. Appointed by the Ontario Government as “Lead Agency for Child/Youth Mental Health (CYMH)” in Renfrew County, Phoenix is also responsible for community-wide Child/Youth Mental Health System Planning in collaboration with local, regional, and provincial stakeholders. Job Summary: Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Family and Child Therapist provides evidence informed therapeutic supports and case management to children/youth, up to the age of 18, and their families. Therapists address a range of issues, including mental health concerns, emotional, behavioural and/or psychiatric symptoms that may be impacting functioning at home, school, socially or in the community. Therapists work directly with parents to support the strengthening of proactive parenting approaches. The Family and Child Therapists works in alignment with the Agency’s Mission, Vision, Values and Lean Leadership Model. The Family and Child Therapist is responsible for the case management of all files on their caseload and is required to perform duties related to the provision of therapy, development of a sound family assessment and clinical impressions, treatment planning, monitor progress, address barriers and work collaboratively with family/caregivers, as well as internal and external multidisciplinary professionals. The Family and Child Therapist will provide treatment in -person, virtually, and in the community (ie home, school, satellite offices) as required. Qualifications: BSW or MSW degree from an accredited university program in social work and registered member in good standing with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or; MA or MEd degree from a recognized university program in counselling/psychology/psychotherapy and registered member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or a member of one of the regulatory colleges entitled to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy. Experience: Experience working with children, youth and families in a clinical setting (2 years minimum) Experience in child development and child and youth mental health Knowledge: Strong counselling skills in the area of child development, parent support, family therapy, and children’s mental health Knowledgeable and experienced in anti-oppressive practices related to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Knowledge of community resources Abilities: Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with community partners Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment Ability to maintain all client records as per the agency standards Demonstrated commitment to client safety Demonstrates professionalism in dealing with highly confidential information and situations. Strong written and oral skills Good computer skills Travel may be required from time to time throughout Renfrew County. Requirements: Proof of eligibility to work in Canada. A valid Ontario driver’s licence and use of a reliable motor vehicle Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search Successful candidates are required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 The linguistic requirement for this position is English.
