Participate in the provision of the radiography service.

Provide radiography for all in patients, out patients, General Practitioner and Dexa. This will include a rotation through all specialities including West Suffolk.

Development and Implementation

Maintaining an interest in the profession and knowledge of new techniques and protocols, attending courses where necessary, in line with the service demand. Continue a personal development plan with guidance from the appraisal system.

Teaching and Training

Expected to participate in the training program in place for radiography students and on occasions other students, from school leavers to pre-registration doctors.

Public Relations

Remain professional at all times, liaise with other clinical teams and maintain good public relations on a one-to-one basis with the general public and other interest groups.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities

To undertake all basic radiographic and Dexa procedures unsupervised, adaptation of technique where appropriate. Able to apply a variety of general radiographic skills in unusual general and trauma situations. Ensure high professional and technical standards are maintained at all times, advising more junior radiographers as may be required. Ensure requirements of radiation administration and protection are observed as identified in the dept local rules, procedure protocols and guidelines and offer advice to other disciplines on the correct use of ionising radiation. Take responsibility for the patient whilst under your care, maintaining dignity, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. Accept referrals from other disciplines, adhering to Ionising Regulations (Medical Exposures) Regulation, IRMER on justification of procedures and advise other disciplines on the safe use of ionising radiation. Manipulate complex, expensive instruments ensuring safe use of equipment. Be able to access patient records, history, enter patients details and retrieve images on the trusts Computerised Radiography / Patient Archiving System.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential Have a degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography. Current HCPC registration.

Desirable Willingness to complete the NOS DXA scanning course.

Experience and knowledge

Essential Evidence of recent experience working in a dynamic NHS Radiology department. Demonstrable and valuable recent experience of a wide range of radiographic techniques.

Desirable Experience of participating in audit and governance activities. DXA experience. Recent NHS experience.

Skills and abilities

Essential Ability to communicate with all grades of staff, and all types of patient, seeking advice as required. Able to work as part of a small dept team and a larger MDT. Demonstrable leadership skills. Able to use own initiative when working single-handed. Able to work under pressure.

Personal qualities

Essential Commitment to own personal development. Ambitious. Occupational health clearance to carry out duties of role. Able to cope with stressful and emotional circumstances. Ability to cope under pressure. Flexible approach to working hours and area allocation, which may change at short notice in line with service needs. Willingness to adopt and manage an additional responsibility (as agreed at interview). Professional indemnity insurance (SoR membership or other).

Desirable Ability to travel to other trust sites.
