We are looking torecruit an Advanced Phlebotomists to expand our team working across at Basildonand Thurrock University Hospital, Southend University Hospital and other localcommunity clinics throughout South Essex. This role isideally suited for someone who is experienced, caring, friendly and would liketo be a part of a team that contributes towards patient care. You will needexcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work and communicate with alarge team across multiple sections. Main duties of the job

As a Phlebotomistyou will be taking blood samples from patients for all our pathology servicesensuring correct order of draw, and safe specimen handling using theappropriate PPE. Job responsibilities

To take blood samples from patients, including children, according to protocols, practices and standards required by pathology, atthe request of a qualified medical practitioner. To be able to book patients in the phlebotomy clinic software Swiftqueue. To become familiar with all tests and precautions associated with the collection of blood samples for all pathology disciplines. Ensure as far as possible, that all the information on the request form is correct and any problems are resolved in a timely manneraccording to the department policies and procedures. Know the department and Trust procedure for dealing with patients who become unwell or faint during venepuncture and carry outbasic life support. Checking and maintaining stock of consumables to ensure the smooth running of the service in the clinic area. Observe and maintain clean and tidy working environment at all times. To maintain a professional appearance and comply with uniform standards. Provide cover for other phlebotomy staff within the hospital, in community clinics, and domiciliary service as directed by thephlebotomy supervisors. To know and observe procedures for high risk patients and specimens. To cover weekends, Bank Holidays and extra hours, and in the event of staff shortage when requested by the phlebotomy supervisorsto maintain a high-quality service. Work in a flexible way across the clinical areas to ensure cover is maintained during periods of leave, weekends and bank holidays. Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive phlebotomyteam and the achievement of team objectives. To participate in all relevant departmental training under qualified supervision to attain further proficiency in venepuncture andassociated skills. Demonstrate on going competency against training plans and participate positively in CPD (continuous professional development)activitiesTrain and support phlebotomist colleagues. Liaise in a pleasant and professional manner with all trust staff including portering, transport, and outpatient staff on behalf of patients. Maintain a professional and helpful manner with all patients, carers and colleagues at all times. Undertake routine housekeeping duties within the blood clinic, with special emphasis on observing Health & Safety to preventcontracting or spreading infection. Report all incidents and adverse events to senior staff. Be aware of and participate in the reporting of any incidents using the online Qpulse system. When working in hospital wards, report untoward incidents and any other relevant information to a registered nurse immediately andrecord this on the incident reporting system. Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively towards the smooth running of the phlebotomy service. Ensure company's IT systems are used appropriately. Engage with, and contribute to, service development projects and be willing to adapt to changing needs of the service and thedepartment. Able to work under pressure.Work as part the team, be professional at all time and be professionally responsible for their own workload with good speed andaccuracy. Qualifications

5 GCSE o levels or equivalent which must include English or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience Experience

At least 12 months experience as a phlebotomist in a healthcare setting Paediatric experience Domiciliary experience Previous phlebotomy experience in a multifunctional area
