Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Are you looking for an exciting new challenge to develop your clinical and leadership skills? We have a rare opportunity to join a dynamic, friendly team of speech and language therapists in Somerset. The post is full time covering Monday to Friday; however, a flexible working pattern and/or part-time hours can be considered. Although we are looking for the post holder to be based at West Mendip Hospital, there is some flexibility with the base, as we are a county-wide service. Our team has a well-established supervision and support network in place. We have access to a wide variety of CPD opportunities and encourage the development of leadership skills alongside clinical skills from the start of your career journey. We value the importance of staff well-being and have appointed a well-being lead in the service to ensure all staff have access to well-being support alongside their one-to-one sessions and clinical supervision. We are looking for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about delivering high-quality evidence-based care to this group of vulnerable patients. Ideally, you'll have some experience of working with patients with deteriorating neurological conditions. We are willing to support a Band 5 therapist with relevant experience who is keen to progress to a Band 6 role. Main duties of the job

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated professional to join our team, where you'll have the opportunity to independently manage a diverse caseload of patients with progressive neurological conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and Dementia. In this role, you'll work across various settings, including community clinics, hospitals, care homes, and visiting patients in their own homes. Our service is equipped with a fantastic range of communication aids for you to trial with patients, and we collaborate closely with the AAC West Service. You'll also have the support of a skilled team of Associate Practitioner Speech and Language Therapists who are eager to assist you in managing your caseload. You'll be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with other professionals, while also training and supporting care staff and family members to ensure the best possible care for our patients. We offer exciting opportunities to develop specialist skills in areas such as LSVT provision, voice banking, and videofluoroscopy. You'll also be encouraged to enhance your leadership abilities through courses and by taking on some line management responsibilities. Throughout your journey, you'll receive clinical support from our Band 7 Pathway Lead for Deteriorating Neurological Conditions, ensuring you have the guidance and resources you need to thrive in this role. About us

As an organisation, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust offers employees a wide range of benefits including flexible working, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance, and a commitment to career development. You will be eligible for our Blue Light Card and a wide range of NHS exclusive shopping & leisure discounts. We are proud of our skilled, diverse workforce and as an inclusive employer, we welcome applications from all backgrounds. Working in Somerset enables you to enjoy the idyllic countryside, areas of outstanding beauty, and stunning coastlines whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, and only two hours away from London. There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. Somerset offers the countryside and the cosmopolitan -- there is truly something for everyone! Job responsibilities
