We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person to join our friendly and highly motivated team here at Kettering General Hospital. The main purpose of the role is to support the Biomedical Scientist staff with the delivery of a first-class pathology service by providing clerical support to the Fetal Anomaly Screening Laboratory. Flexibility will be required for some weekend work. Due to the part-time hours and salary of this position, the role does not attract sponsorship for right to work purposes. Main duties of the job

The job will involve technical and clerical support to areas of the Biochemistry Department. It will include the safe, pre-analytical preparation of laboratory specimens for analysis and accurate entry of specimen details onto the laboratory computer systems, as well as email communication, electronic reporting, handling of laboratory specimens, filing, and other general clerical duties. Knowledge of medical laboratory procedures and familiarity with sample acceptance criteria would be an advantage. You should have a methodical and organised approach to work with a keen focus on accuracy and data quality. The ability to prioritise tasks together with effective communication and team skills is essential. Experience of Microsoft Office programmes such as Word and Excel is also desirable. About us

Job responsibilities

Main duties would include: Receipt, sorting, checking and labelling of pathology specimens and request forms with laboratory numbers, including following failsafe procedures for ensuring receipt of all samples. Keyboard data entry of patient and specimen details onto laboratory computer systems, ensuring accuracy of input. Answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries and transferring calls appropriately. Photocopying and general filing, including various request forms. Preparation and dispatch of request forms for fetal anomaly maternal serum screening. Assistance with stock control to ensure supplies of specimen containers, labels, envelopes, etc. are available daily. Daily checking of refrigerator and freezer temperatures, defrosting freezers as required. Disposal of laboratory waste, general cleaning, and disinfection duties. Commitment to identify hazards, minimise risks, report all incidents, and notify manager of any risks that may need assessment. Co-ordinate and carry out monthly and year-end archiving of documentation, including disposal of documentation and paperwork in line with SOPs. Maintain an accurate database of sonographer details, including liaison with superintendent sonographers as required. Electronic reporting of results for both 1st and 2nd trimester screening (Lifecyle7 and SSD), ensuring 3-day turnaround time from receipt is met. Reporting and emailing higher chance and low PAPP-A results, updating EXCEL spreadsheet and monitoring acknowledgements of higher chance emails, chasing up as required either by email or telephone. Reporting and emailing all other reports, letters, and summaries to relevant antenatal departments. Aliquoting, freezing, and storage of higher chance samples. Email communication to complete missing information on request forms and to verify mismatching or illegible information. Acting on missing information responses, chasing responses if needed within a limited time frame and acting upon information received, meeting 3-day turnaround time. Assist in collecting data for Public Health England (KPIs). Troubleshoot returned fetal anomaly screening letters and reports. Assist in training of other MLA staff and BMS staff as required by senior staff. It is essential that a high standard of dress and conduct be maintained to the satisfaction of the Laboratory Manager.
