Our client is looking for a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to work within a clinic based just 30 mins from Ballymena. The role will have a farm bias for sheep, beef, and horses but will also involve some consulting in small animals. This position could suit a Veterinary Surgeon looking to work mainly in farm with some small animal and equine work or a Veterinary Surgeon looking for a mixed role equally split across all areas.

This is a 3-branch practice located in the middle of the Sperrin Mountains, with only a 40-minute drive to our stunning North Coast, Belfast airport, and the hustle and bustle of Belfast or Derry city life. Two of the branches have farm animal crush and pen, and they have all the usual equipment in the main branch for both farm and small animal practice. Facilities include easy scan/small animal ultrasound, IDEXX lab station, microscope, x-ray, endoscope, ECG, kennelling/stabling facilities, small ruminant operating table, and a horse stock.

There is a team of 8 Veterinary Surgeons, of which 4 have 20 years’ experience in farm, small animal, and equine, and 1 Veterinary Surgeon has 10 years of farm vet experience. Additionally, they have a dedicated Veterinary Nursing team made up of 2 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 3 Student Veterinary Nurses.

The standard full-time vet rota consists of a 40-hour week, working 1 weekend in 4 with a long weekend off in lieu the following week. There is an OOH requirement to work 1 night per week on call in the winter months and 1 night per week every fortnight in summer months. The ideal candidate will have previous experience and be comfortable with calving, C-sections, and uterine twists. You will also be expected to perform some horse work; no PPE is required, but reproduction knowledge would be beneficial. Additionally, you must have experience in small animal procedures including neutering dogs and cats, pyo op, and basic emergency and critical care skills. Additional training and support will be provided, and candidates must be RCVS registered.
