Lander Medical Practice, Truro Health Park, Truro is looking for a part-time Treatment Room Practice Nurse to join our team of Nurses and HCAs for 32 hours per week. Happy to discuss flexibility/job share with this role. An ability to provide holiday/sickness cover would also be appreciated. Salary will be based on Agenda for Change Band 5 dependent on qualifications and experience.

Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to undertake a variety of roles within their scope of professional practice and perform a number of functions within the role of treatment room nurse as listed in the attached job description/specification.

To provide an optimum level of nursing care to the patients within the practice as part of the nursing team and within the wider context of the primary health care team.

About us We are a close team which consists of 8 nurses and 5 HCAs who work together over 2 surgery sites to offer a high standard of nursing care for our list of approximately 20,000 patients. We work closely with the wider surgery team and other associated healthcare teams and form Truro PCN along with our neighbouring practice.

Job Summary:

The post holder will be expected to undertake a variety of roles within their scope of professional practice and perform a number of functions. The following list of responsibilities is intended to indicate a range rather than set limits.

To provide an optimum level of nursing care to the patients within the practice as part of the nursing team and within the wider context of the primary health care team.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform all aspects of treatment room duties related to patient care including tissue viability, injections, pill checks, suture removal, phlebotomy and lifestyle advice as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate to assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programmes to deliver person-centred care for our patients.

Work in an effective and organised manner, demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills.

Carry out annual reviews alongside senior colleagues.

Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals.

Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines and obtain and record consent.

Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment.

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture and swabs.

Assisting GPs with minor surgery and family planning clinics.

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.

Adult/Child Immunisations & Vaccinations as per PGDs.

IM and subcutaneous Injections/implants as per PSDs.

Advise patients on general health care with referral to GPs as necessary.

Following recognised Leg Ulcer management training and completion of competencies, undertake leg ulcer care, compression bandaging and Doppler assessments.

Carry out holistic assessment and planning of wound care for patients with chronic and acute wounds. To recognise deterioration of wounds or infection and arrange early review with RGN/GP or specialist as required.

Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical adult and child safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.

Liaise with other members of the primary care team and when necessary with other agencies such as local authority social services.

Participate in regular practice clinical meetings.

Involvement with practice policy development providing the nursing input to decision-making processes affecting patient care within the practice.

Participating with teaching students, other practice nurses, GP registrars and other clinical trainees.

Supervising/supporting Nursing Associate/HCAs in their role.

Ensure all mandatory training is completed on an annual basis including safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity etc.

Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.

Able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.

Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times. Ensuring that data protection and information governance policies and protocols are followed and strictly adhered to, reporting any infringements to the Management Team immediately.

Assist in practice audits, CQC compliance evidence and QOF recalls.

UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration.

Person Specification Qualifications

Registered General Nurse on the NMC register

RGN with at least 1 year post-registration experience

Experience

Understanding of the scope of the role of the Registered Nurse in general practice and have good knowledge of NMC code of conduct and accountability.

Understands principles of Clinical Governance/Data Protection.

Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice.

Understand requirements for NMC Professional Revalidation.

Skilled in assessing nursing needs of patients and evaluating outcomes.

Working within a team.

Holistic approach to care.

Understands the importance of evidence-based practice and clinical effectiveness.

Ability to undertake clinical skills relevant to primary care, as per job description.

Where appropriate work without direct supervision within parameters of Registered Nurse role.

Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.

Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.

Development of practice policies in conjunction with primary care team.

Previous experience of working within General Practice.
