To provide support for 18 hours per week. To work with a young adult to enable him to access the community to enable his independence and also to provide personal care.

We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker to provide support for a 27 year old young man. The purpose of your role will be to enable his independence supporting him to access the community, taking part in activities he enjoys and to provide personal care.

This young man has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time wheelchair user. He also has the support of an assistance dog.

You will support with going to the shops, meeting friends, taking part in various activities such as going to the cinema and out for food. You will also support with his assistance dog going for walks, vet visits etc. Each day will be different depending on what he wants to do on that day and his level of energy so you should be prepared to be flexible.

We would also like our PA to be able to suggest things to do out in the community so you should be willing to be proactive in finding various activities to take part in.

You will need to be a car driver and be able to drive a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (client's own). May be beneficial to have your own transport due to rural location; however, there is public transport which can be used. Expenses will be met by your employer.

We are looking for a third member of the team working 18 hours per week on a shift basis.

MAIN DUTIES

Personal Care

Support with enabling independence

Assist with taking part in activities and to pursue hobbies and interests

Ensure safety when out and about

Rate of pay: £13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.

Hours Breakdown:

18 hours per week – to be flexible

Person Specification

Successful applicant must:

Ideally have experience working as a support worker with adults especially with physical disabilities

Have a positive understanding towards people with disabilities

Have a genuine interest in working within social care

Have a high degree of initiative

Be punctual and reliable

Be flexible

Have a happy, positive and caring nature.

Respect confidentiality.

Car driver preferable and must have business insurance.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by employer.
