Astute's team is partnering with one of the UK leaders in waste management and specialist industrial services to recruit a Site Chemist to join its team in Peterborough.

The Site Chemist role comes with a salary of 25,000 - 27,000 and would suit an experienced on-site chemist or a recent graduate looking to get into a hands-on role in the waste industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will be responsible for: Assisting with the hands-on operation of the hazardous waste site ensuring materials coming onto and off site are consistently safe and compliant to site permits and environmental regulations. Testing, sorting, bulking of drum and packaged waste materials. Assisting with compiling lists of wastes to be transferred off site to third party disposal points, liaising with other staff to ensure correct routing of wastes. Assisting with non-conformance procedures and sample processing within the site laboratory for incoming waste streams. Providing services to customers to enable wastes to be assessed, priced and collected. Utilising appropriate systems to manage non-compliances. Using FLT/Dump Truck and other mobile plant as required. Assisting with the daily/weekly plan for the operational areas and laboratory, adapting to the unplanned and unexpected to deliver targets, KPI's and other requirements. Ensuring house-keeping requirements and continuous improvement programmes are supported both directly and through the plant team. Participating in the improvement of process, contributing to micro project development. Undertaking area administration activity including Chemist Check sheets, process sheets, stock sheets, production records, etc. All other duties as required.

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following: Degree in Chemistry or equivalent. Full UK Driving licence. An interest in the environmental/waste management industry. Safety conscious with a view to improve safety culture/report any H&S issues. Ability to deal with customers in a professional manner. Due to the nature of the work, must be prepared to carry out lifting work both inside and outside in all weathers.

Salary and Benefits of the Site Chemist Role

Basic Salary of 25,000 - 27,000. 25 days holiday + bank holidays. Set performance-based progression plan. Private Health Care and other benefits.
