Human Resources Manager – Cammell Laird This is a key HR role supporting leadership and managing day-to-day HR operations for our large Birkenhead-based workforce of between 600 and 1000 employees. Reporting to the HR Director, you will lead a small team of HR professionals, working closely with department heads and employees across the facility to ensure effective engagement, compliance, and performance. This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact on the facility where your efforts will be visible. So who are we? Known across the globe at our Birkenhead facility, on the banks of the River Mersey, we expand across 130 acres which includes four dry docks, a large modular construction hall, and extensive covered workshops. We’ve played a strategic role in UK shipbuilding for the past 200 years, repairing, maintaining, and building ships and other vessels. And what will you do? Manage the operational HR team in providing advice and guidance on a range of HR policies and procedures across the business. Build relationships with Production management and develop a good understanding of their work to support and drive the business forward. Support relevant Senior Managers and provide HR advice to ensure the effective management of staff to achieve business needs. Take responsibility for the development and implementation of all HR policy, ensuring that issues are dealt with within effective & efficient timescales. Build and maintain strong relationships with Trade Unions, understanding their activities and negotiating with them. Engage with relevant third-party resources like legal providers, recruitment agencies, and occupational health. Promote Employee Engagement, monitoring employee health and wellbeing. Provide accurate and timely reports as required. Manage training & development for production and white-collar functions to ensure continuous professional development and succession planning. Take part in training and team development activities for professional development. Manage the apprenticeship programme and key stakeholders including the college. Collaborate with colleagues across the wider Group to establish best-in-class HR policy, practice, and procedure. And what are we looking for? CIPD – Level 5 or 7 qualification. Full UK driving licence (we are 100% facility-based and you will drive around when needed). HR generalist experience within a fast-paced medium to large-sized production/manufacturing organisations. Working knowledge of employment law, HR best practice, and HR systems. The ability to communicate with all within the business, including significant experience with Trade Unions, understanding their activities, negotiations, and building relationships with them. Motivation to improve existing working practices, prioritising to achieve within given time scales. Problem-solving skills and the ability to ensure issues are resolved tactfully, with discretion, efficiently, and professionally. Due to the nature of what we do for some of the customers that we work with, some roles working for Cammell Laird are subject to security control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform with us. You must also undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before your employment starts, which will include a basic DBS check.
