Senior Bioinformatician - Bacterial genomics Cambridge – 3 days onsite This Cambridge based biotech has built a microbiome profiling platform that supports drug discovery across a range of disease areas, including Oncology and IBD. You’ll join a well-established team tasked with developing precision microbiome medicines to improve patient outcomes. We are looking for a Bioinformatician with strong experience in microbial genomics and microbiome science. You will be involved in the microbiome analysis of data from clinical trials, and functional analyses corresponding to the mechanisms of action of our drug products. In addition, you will be expected to develop new bioinformatics tools where appropriate and provide bioinformatics support for translational biology and preclinical teams. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to be involved in the early stages of this novel area of live bacterial therapeutics and to help shape the informatics and analytics of the company to meet the needs of this new discipline. Innovation and independent problem-solving in a cross-functional environment are key skills, with a strong biological background. Key responsibilities will be to:

Conduct in-depth analyses of microbial genomic data to elucidate underlying functional mechanisms. Analyse association of large-scale biological datasets (metagenomics, transcriptomics etc.) with clinical metadata, including data from our clinical trials. Identify, develop and implement new bioinformatics tools and pipelines to provide novel biological insights. Provide analytical and bioinformatics support across the company. Candidate Specification

PhD in Bioinformatics or related field (Ideally post study experience). In-depth knowledge of functional bacterial genomics. Broad understanding of metabolic pathways and the associated analytical methods. Hands-on experience of metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proficiency with Python or R and familiarity with good programming practices, e.g., version control and testing. Experience in working with clinical datasets and patient metadata. Experience with multi-omics analysis, integrating diverse data types.
