Nurses and Paramedics, are you ready to make your next career move away from a hospital or community setting? Maybe you are looking for something less physically demanding, but still want a challenge and to learn new skills or to use your existing skills and experience in a new way?

The post holder will work within our Integrated Contact Centres (ICC) based across the North West. As a UECC you will be responsible for the remote assessment of patients whilst ensuring the delivery of excellent patient care through the continuous achievement of high clinical standards. Further development will be offered once you have completed your initial training followed by a period of skill consolidation.

Once this period of consolidation is complete, the post holder will be required to develop additional skills to meet the needs of the service. These additional skills will include providing clinical advice to both clinical and non-clinical colleagues, supporting staff who are returning to practice or are new and require mentorship as well as other specialist skills such as managing the clinical queue and referring calls onto partner organisations who provide Clinical Assessment Services on behalf of NWAS. It is a requirement of the role that these additional skills are completed in a timely manner to ensure that patients get access to the right care, at the right time, in the right place; every time.

Main duties of the job What we are looking for:

Post registration clinical experience in a face to face, primary or acute care setting, emergency department or pre-hospital role.

Excellent leadership and mentoring skills to support staff.

Resilient, highly motivated and passionate about delivering outstanding patient care.

An ability to adapt to a new and challenging setting.

Basic computer skills.

What we offer in return:

Part time and full time opportunities are available.

Basic salary of £35,392 - £42,618 (pro rata for part time staff) plus A4C shift enhancements.

Access to paid CPD time.

Access to numerous staff benefits such as salary sacrifice schemes, physiotherapy and other welfare benefits.

Opportunities to develop knowledge and skills to support career progression.

Training for this role is on a full-time basis and lasts between 5 and 10 weeks, depending on the triage tool that staff are being trained to use. The classroom element of the training is Monday to Friday 08:00-16:00, with mentorship taking place working shifts with experienced staff taking live calls. Candidates must ensure that they are able to commit to this training IN FULL, as no annual leave can be taken whilst in training.

Training courses are currently planned throughout 2025 at venues across the North West. Specific dates will be discussed with successful candidates once any offer of employment is made.

About us North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed. We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job responsibilities Remote triage within ICCs is delivered on a 24/7 basis, with post holders being expected to work a variety of shifts which may include full night shifts, Bank Holidays, and other Public Holidays. A variety of shift lengths are profiled across the ICCs with these ranging from 7.5 hours to 11.5 hours.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a simulated telephone assessment which will take place over Teams W/C 13 January 2025.

Successful candidates from the first stage will then be invited to a F2F interview during W/C 20 January 2025.

Previous applicants need not apply.

North West Ambulance Service Clinician: We offer a unique environment to expand your skills into other areas of clinical expertise where you are exposed to a range of diverse patients who call 111 for clinical advice. Where else would that happen? Being part of the NWAS family and NHS 111 service enhances your skills and development and makes a real difference to patients.

North West Ambulance Service Clinician: I initially was looking for a change of environment when I first applied. Once I got into the job role I found that it gave me a better work/home life balance. The job gave me the opportunity to expand on my clinical knowledge and experience, and I felt I have become a better clinician, and broadened my knowledge again. It has allowed me to put my focus back on the patient and prioritise their needs above anything else. From a nurse's perspective, it's a very welcome change of pace and a highly supportive working environment, and you can drink your brew whilst it's hot!

Please ensure you read the full Job Description and Person Specification and demonstrate how your knowledge and experience meets the criteria contained within those documents in your supporting statement.
