We are pleased to announce an opening for the position of Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Musculoskeletal Directorate at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. This is a distinctive opportunity for a nurse who possesses the appropriate skills and qualifications to become a valued member of our dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of managing a caseload of patients within the specialty. They will undertake nurse-led clinics and work as an independent practitioner while promoting a collaborative and multiprofessional approach to patient care pathways. Have excellent communication skills with patients, carers, and other health professionals both in individual or group settings, providing and receiving information which at times can be complex and sensitive. Ensure all clinical documentation is completed to the highest standard, meeting NMC and Trust guidelines. Work as an effective member of the team to help develop protocols and guidelines to support clinical practice and ensure these are updated as required. Contribute to the setting and monitoring of standards in rheumatology nursing practice and service provision. Reorganise workload appropriately as the caseload may be unpredictable, which could occur on a daily basis. Liaise and work closely with the rheumatology nurse specialists and medical team in the delivery of care for patients with rheumatological conditions. Liaise and work closely with the rheumatology nurse specialists and medical team in the delivery of care for patients with rheumatological conditions. Develop autonomous nursing practice and manage own caseload of patients under the supervision of the senior nurse specialist and medical staff in the delivery of care. Provide advice to patients, carers, and other health professionals via the rheumatology nurse advice line, recognizing their own limitations. Develop musculoskeletal examination skills. Review rheumatology patients, assessing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating their care and reporting any clinical risk. Manage and analyze blood results, recognizing abnormal results and withholding treatment and repeating bloods as necessary. Request x-rays and ultrasounds according to department protocol after appropriate training. Provide IM steroid injections according to PGD after appropriate training. Provide and promote health education and advice in rheumatology and treatments available. Plan and implement care based on sound theoretical knowledge and evidence. Ensure the use of clinical governance framework and resources to guide practice. Person specification
