Job summary

We are delighted to offer a Band 7, Clinical Psychologist, part-time post (22.5 hours per week) within our Clinical Health Psychology Service. The post will primarily work into the Cancer Psychology Service, with some opportunity to provide input into the wider Bariatric Psychology, Pain Management, and Clinical Health team, depending upon service need.

The post will provide opportunity to work with cancer patients at all stages of cancer diagnosis and treatment, and across various cancer specialities, including palliative care. The post holder will offer specialist assessment and treatment (group and individual) for a wide range of cancer-related psychological difficulties. This can include helping people prepare for complex treatments and associated decision-making, enhancing their ability to cope with symptoms, adjustment-related difficulties, cancer-related traumatic stress, managing fears of cancer recurrence, and living well with cancer. We work closely with the cancer multi-disciplinary teams to provide consultation, supervision, and training, and there is opportunity for service development as we continue our journey towards embedding psychologically informed care as part of the wider pathway. The post is primarily outpatient work and you will work alongside a Senior Clinical Psychologist as well as other psychological professionals.

We believe in helping our clinicians to develop and can provide multiple strands of support and learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver a service to outpatients as an integral member of the Clinical Health Psychology Service consisting of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Senior Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, and Psychological Therapists.

The post primarily will be split across Cancer Psychology and Bariatric Psychology, and there will be some opportunity to provide input into the wider Pain Psychology and Clinical Health Psychology teams, depending on service need.

The post holder will undertake specialist psychological assessment and complete one-to-one and group interventions for people experiencing significant psychological distress associated with diagnosis and treatment for cancer.

This post will also involve undertaking comprehensive specialist assessments for patients wishing to be considered for bariatric surgery (weight-loss surgery).

The post holder will mainly be based at the Bennett Centre as many of our patients are now opting for face-to-face appointments; there may be some opportunity for remote working.

Job responsibilities

Provides a service for adults experiencing significant psychological distress in relation to diagnosis and treatment for cancer. Provides assessment for people pre- and post-bariatric surgery. Manages a caseload of appropriate size, complexity, and severity, including people who have complex problems which may present as challenging or risky. Provides specialised psychological assessments. Produces psychological formulations of clients' difficulties, based upon analyses of assessment findings and psychological theory. Exercises autonomous clinical responsibility for the development and implementation of psychological interventions, adjusting and reformulating as appropriate. Receives regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines.

HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist or eligible shortly (Clinical / Counselling) Experience

Essential

Experience during or post-qualification in a physical health environment, working with people experiencing significant mental health difficulties.
