Associate Practitioner Occupational Therapy (APOT)

We are seeking an Occupational Therapy Associate Practitioner to work under the supervision of a Specialist Occupational Therapist and provide interventions on the in-patient unit and in the community. The post would be suitable for a confident and enthusiastic Band 4 (or an experienced Band 3 who is ready to progress), to join our acute learning disability in-patient service. The team at Townend Court is multidisciplinary and includes Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry and Speech and Language Therapy. The successful applicant will support the Occupational Therapist and wider team in carrying out assessments and effective interventions for a complex client group with a variety of sensory, physical, cognitive, social and environmental needs. You will be expected to work autonomously and carry out treatment plans agreed with the Occupational Therapist. This will include delivering a wide range of individual and group activities to meet identified aims. There will be the opportunity to take part in training and regular supervision. The successful applicant will support the Occupational Therapist and wider team in carrying out assessments and interventions with clients. Interventions may include daily living skills training, community skills such as shopping and social activities and engagement in meaningful activities. Knowledge

A good understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion Basic IT skills Knowledge of preparing programmes for improving patient lives Knowledge of working in the clinical area Relevant diploma or NVQ level 3 or Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Knowledge of Occupational Therapy General knowledge of government drivers and policies. Experience

Demonstrable knowledge/experience of working within mental health/learning disabilities clinical practice areas Experience of working within a health care setting and providing occupational therapy interventions as delegated. Experience of facilitating individual and group interventions Experience and knowledge of occupational therapy assessments Experience of liaising and working with multidisciplinary teams Evidence of working within a health care setting relevant to position. Qualifications

NVQ III in health or social care or other equivalent relevant qualification/experience plus significant knowledge skills development to diploma equivalent level Skills and Competencies

Effective communication, interpersonal, organisational, and clinical skills Evidence of engagement with patients experiencing complex needs Motivated and ability to work without direct supervision, prioritising own workload and using own initiative Understanding the limit of job role and responsibilities Able to work as an effective and flexible member of a team Ability to work with both individuals and groups Ability to commute within the Trust geographical area with access to an appropriate means of transport Ability to effectively communicate to a range of professionals and patients/carers. Ability to work flexibly to respond to specific service need. Full driving licence (if applicable) Disclosure and Barring Service Check
