Governance & Democracy This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, friendly Democratic Services team working in the heart of Nottinghamshire. The team handles the administration of elections and electoral registration as well as coordinating Council meetings, committees and providing advice and support to our 41 councillors. Democratic Services also includes the Mayor’s office which looks after civic engagements for the Mayor of Gedling, the first citizen of the borough. We are looking for a confident, articulate person to join our busy Democratic Services Team on a full time basis. Working at the heart of the Council’s decision making process, you will be required to attend a range of formal meetings (and undertake all the associated tasks relating to the management of formal (and informal) meetings), including preparing and publishing agendas, reports, and minutes. You will work closely with elected Members and senior officers, providing professional advice on democratic, elections and electoral registration matters. You will also be responsible for carrying out electoral registration activities and will support the conduct of elections. Some event organisation and management will also be required to assist with mayoral functions, such as the annual civic service and associated fundraising events. We are ideally seeking someone with experience of all of the functions the teams carry out but will support you whether you are newer to the profession or wish to move here as part of your career progression. We will need you to be in the office in accordance with business need which equates to 1-2 days a week; for the rest of your week, the days and location of work will be up to you. Home working is actively supported. During peak periods, such as elections time, you will be required to work in the office for the majority of the time. In the weeks leading up to elections, you may be required to work a significant amount of overtime, for which additional payment is made. You will be highly organised, able to work flexibly, customer focused and be adept at meeting demanding deadlines in pressurised circumstances, possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and excellent IT skills. Experience of Xpress and Modern.Gov would be highly advantageous. Our team works together, problem solving, sharing expertise, knowledge, and experience so that everyone can thrive. Regular team meetings and 1-2-1’s promote continual development and a strong sense of belonging. Everyone is supported to achieve their full potential. Benefits : generous annual leave, generous local government pension scheme, hybrid and flexible working, free work parking, significantly discounted leisure centre membership, employee discount scheme, professional fees paid and many others. We believe in fostering a culture of flexibility, and we’re open to discussing various working arrangements.
