About the role

Lightcast are a life-science startup developing a unique platform for massively parallel processing of single cell assay operations that can revolutionise conventional drug discovery workflows. We are hiring a Lead Data Analyst to head a team working on the next generation of advanced image and data analysis to support single-cell assay workflows.

The role will help shape the company strategy for image and data handling, working closely with both the Science and Software teams in analysing complex biology workflows of both numeric and 2D image data, and helping prototype novel detection algorithms.

Key aspects of the role include:

The design, development, and detailed evaluation of novel algorithms for large-scale 2D image and numeric data analysis, often approaching TBytes of data. In particular, cell brightfield and fluorescence signal detection

Helping define the analysis strategy for image and data handling

Working closely with the Biology Team to understand cell therapy interactions and converting these into software requirements

Also working closely with the Software Development teams developing new/novel algorithms for image signal capture and data handling

Working in a highly scientific environment under an Agile development process

We would expect you to have:

Solid understanding of large-scale numeric data and 2D image analysis using heuristic or Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence methods.

Experience in the development of complex algorithms, typically in Python, but we are development language agnostic

An understanding/experience of Biology / Cell-based analytics would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite.

Degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science – a PhD would be a bonus.

Ability to communicate effectively with other teams across various disciplines

It would be advantageous for you to have:

Team leadership experience running a small team of Data Analysts

Scientific computing knowledge and a strong mathematical background

We offer a generous benefits package including:

26 days holiday, plus Public Holidays

Flexible working hours

Pension contribution matched up to 7%

Private medical insurance

Income protection

Life insurance
