Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in Early years intervention and prevention? Do you have demonstrable leadership skills? We are looking for an individual with passion and enthusiasm and well-developed communication and negotiation skills to work in partnership with Swansea Local Authority and the wider Flying Start Team. You will lead and provide clinical oversight to an established team and will be responsible for the delivery of the Speech Language and Communication element of the Flying Start programme in line with the conditions set by the Children and Communities Grant funding of Flying Start. This will include data monitoring and the quarterly reporting of activity and outcomes.

You will also be part of the wider supportive Swansea Bay Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy team with access to an established network of other Highly Specialist SLTs.

There are CPD opportunities to contribute to early years service development, training, research, audit and access to regular supervision.

Main duties of the job

Operational responsibilities will include line management of Registrant and non-registrant professionals, clinical and professional supervision and oversight of the Flying Start Speech and Language service for Swansea. You will be responsible for integrating the delivery of universal and targeted Speech & Language training across the FS Early Years workforce and support targeted screening and intervention to children who are identified with SLCN needs where appropriate.

You will provide Speech, Language and Communication support and advice to Parents and Childcare staff working with children with emerging ALN and SLC needs in liaison with other professionals from the multi-agency team including specialist teachers and Early Years practitioners.

You will need to be innovative and creative in promoting key messages in line with WG Talk with Me campaign to wide audiences including parents and other key staff. You will also be a key member of several decision-making panels and intra-agency forums, so high professionalism is a key aspect of this role.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc. (Hons) SLT/Dip SLT or equivalent. Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master's degree level or equivalent. RCSLT Registered. HCPC Registered. Completion of postgraduate specialist courses e.g., Dysphagia etc.

Desirable

Member of relevant CEN. Student clinical/placement educators course. Experience of undertaking Research and Development activities formally.

Experience

Essential

Significant experience of working with individuals within specialist caseload. Working in a multidisciplinary setting. Developing and providing staff training. Responsibility for and supervision of Speech and Language Therapy students. Management / Clinical supervision of less experienced Speech and Language Therapists within area of clinical responsibility. In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions/models of working relevant to specialist caseload. Experience of managing conflict and generating solutions. Experience in data collection and analysis.

Desirable

Management / supervision of non-registrant staff within area of clinical specialism. Evidence of leadership skills obtained through clinical experience.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

Excellent interpersonal/communication skills. Highly developed negotiation and problem-solving skills. Independently plan and prioritise own caseload. Ability to concentrate intensively for prolonged periods of time. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others and understand the roles of others. Ability to be a good team member. Engagement in supervision and the capacity to facilitate this in others. Well established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to specialist caseload. Implementation of clinical audits.

Desirable

Ability to speak Welsh. Computer literate. Knowledge of research.

Essential
