We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated individual to work at a strategic level. In this role, you will lead a team of professionals to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and best practices within our council. The team deliver high-quality occupational health and health and safety services to both the council and external clients, while managing commercial service delivery and external contracts. You will be responsible for recruiting, developing, and managing a team to provide exceptional health and safety and occupational health services. Enhancing the Occupational Health and Safety service in alignment with the People Strategy and legislative requirements will be crucial, as will planning and monitoring team workloads to meet targets. You will oversee reporting systems, analysing incident and accident reports. You will lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies and systems, while continuously reviewing and improving working practices by applying new developments and best practices. Collaboration with stakeholders across council services, including senior managers and trade union representatives, is essential. You will undertake projects as directed by the Director of People Services and Specialist Services Lead, monitor and report on accidents and incidents annually, and act as the liaison with external enforcement agencies as required. Additionally, overseeing procurement and management of external clinical occupational health providers and integrating occupational health services with other wellbeing initiatives across the council will be part of your responsibilities. To qualify, you should have NEBOSH Level 6 or equivalent experience in a complex multi-site organisation, along with extensive public sector knowledge and a current understanding of health and safety regulatory requirements and legislation. You will contribute to directorate objectives and the council's broader plans and strategies. You should have experience leading a team of professionals and delivering large complex projects, as well as strong communication skills to influence stakeholders effectively. Financial management and commercial acumen are also essential. Desirable criteria include experience in delivering commercial services, managing contract delivery, and service agreements for schools, along with membership in a relevant professional body.
