Our vibrant, independently owned business with multiple sites, a local cask ale brewery, and gin distillery is looking for a General Manager to join the team with responsibilities over one venue located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It is a thriving village pub with fantastic food, open 7 days a week. It will require an experienced manager with dedication, ultra high standards and organisational skills. The role is very much a 'hands on' management position that requires someone who is passionate, personable, energetic and capable of managing and motivating the team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve high standards in all aspects of the pub operation. We are looking for someone who has a passion and knowledge in a range of products but particularly cask and craft beer. We would like you to share your knowledge with customers and other staff members in an informative and friendly manner which enhances knowledge and the guest experience. You must be able to provide customer service which is prompt, helpful, and engaging so having great social skills is essential. You must have a genuine interest in learning about our products and keep up to date with the changing trends. Your Role: Delivering excellent customer service, exceeding their expectations and achieve exceptional customer satisfaction results. Ultimate responsibility for effectively running the pub and to achieve all operational standards and commercial targets. Being aware of and proactive about the condition of the physical building inside and out. To manage the content of all company subscribed social media platforms and email. To be 'hands on', it is essential that your time is spent working alongside, managing and supporting the team. To maintain all company food standards and health and safety policies. To manage and maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness around all areas of the building. Engagement with the local community to develop trade, improve the reputation of the business and to ensure the site is an essential pillar in the community. Adherence to the clear company cash handling, storage and banking procedures. To promptly and effectively deal with customer enquiries and to organise and host customer events where appropriate. Plan and execute any events (sporting, music, themed etc) that we as a business may choose to host. To plan and manage staff rotas, absences and disciplinary issues. To be a brand ambassador for Nailmaker Beer. Work collaboratively with other site managers and the Group General Manager. Attending and actively participating in management meetings. Operational responsibilities: To improve and maintain the highest possible standards of operation including, taking ownership of the running of the pub. Daily operational decisions, managing staff and implementing new procedures where necessary. Cellar management. Bringing fun and enjoyment to the team whilst ensuring the service level remains professional with high standards of personal appearance and attitude. Possibility of running a weekly quiz or other events. Getting to know the current customers. Getting to know the wider Nailmaker Pub Co business. Dealing with any customer complaints (either written or verbal) in an assertive, pleasant and totally professional manner to ensure that the situation is resolved. Monitor and action site email and social media messages. Daily cleaning of the pub and weekly deep cleaning duties. To understand and follow company policy and procedures with all personnel matters. Commercial: To understand weekly sales vs wage reports and act accordingly to reduce over or understaffing. To manage stock at the site to ensure stock holding and rotation is efficient and wastage is minimised. Understanding and management of the company operating systems. Essential qualities: Organised. A strong leader who is personable, energetic and capable of managing and motivating a team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve impeccable standards in all aspects of the operation. Passion for real ale and craft beer. Be a strong and positive representative of the business. Must strive to exceed customer expectations. Honest, dedicated and hard working. To act as an ambassador of the company at all times. Be able to recruit, engage, delegate and maintain a positive team. Demonstrate good judgement in a variety of situations. You must be a professional but fun person with a good sense of humour who can enjoy work and the interaction with customers and other staff members. Ambition, drive and the will to succeed and overcome challenges. Fun, confident and enthusiastic personality who takes real pride in achieving exceptional customer service results. Attention to detail. Always keeping an eye out to make sure that all is in place. Enthusiastic to learn. You are comfortable in rising to challenges and are always putting yourself forward to get more involved. Proficient in IT with an understanding of Epos, spreadsheets, word processing and social media. It is essential that you are able to work primarily evenings/ weekends and holidays.
