Head of Strategy & Policy CSRB (£91,975 £97,679)

Croydon Council is undergoing exciting transformation, ensuring that our services and people put Croydon residents and businesses at the heart of our improvement journey – working towards being the most efficient, cost effective council in the UK. At Croydon Council we are committed to serving our vibrant and diverse community, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. We believe in transparency, collaboration, and active community participation. We are seeking an innovative and strategic leader to join us for 12 months as the Head of Strategy & Policy. About the Role This role will provide 12 month maternity cover and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a difference in a changing organisation. The Head of Strategy & Policy oversees and leads on a range of work to support the effectiveness of the council’s corporate and political decision making, as well as identifying opportunities for its continuous improvement. This includes providing a high level of corporate policy and strategy advice to different parts of the organisation, including politicians. This may be both reactive and proactive in nature; helping the council to understand legislative and other changes and to identify new and emerging challenges or opportunities as they emerge, through coordinating briefings and information sharing, as well as playing a proactive role in spotting opportunities to advance the Council priorities, such as developing links to new partners or exploring new projects. In doing so, the role supports the council to advance its strategic ambitions, whilst enabling the organisation to keep pace with the wider political and public sector landscape. The role also oversees the Council’s equality, diversity and inclusion activity both internally and externally, which takes on a varied form. This means ensuring the council’s compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, as well as supporting the organisation to improve its practice around equalities. The role is responsible for overseeing the effective running of both the Executive Mayor’s office and the office of the Civic Mayor of Croydon. Consequently, the role will work with the Executive Mayor, Chief Executive and Corporate Directors to provide strategic advice and ensure that the policy agenda of the Executive Mayor is communicated, coordinated and delivered by the council. The role will work closely with external organisations, often at the most senior levels, on behalf of the Executive Mayor and Cabinet, in support of the Administration’s values and priorities. Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Statement Croydon Council is an inclusive employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Subject to business needs, we will be pleased to consider applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements and support hybrid working, whereby staff attend the workplace for part of their working week and work from home, or elsewhere, remotely for the rest of the time. As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the advertised role.
