The University of Bristol seeks to employ 2 x Senior Postdoctoral Researchers (1 x Climate Scientist, 1 x Climate Modeller) on the BREATHE project (Bridging Research on Environmental Attribution and Health Equity) funded by The Wellcome Trust starting on the 1st of March 2025. Both posts are for 2 years with potential funding for a further year and are 1 FTE.

What will you be doing?

The post holders will work on detection and attribution of climate change and human health. This is part of a large consortium of universities and institutes around the world working on this topic, led from Bristol. The topics covered in the positions may include the following: Extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, tropical cyclones. Climates suitable for infectious diseases, e.g. Dengue. Climate model output analysis. Running climate models. Climate epidemiology. At least one of the positions will be aimed at running the climate simulations as well as writing peer-reviewed papers. The other position will be more focused on method development and climate/health data analysis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing climate and/or health data, or running climate models, depending on which of the two roles they specify. They will be guided by the project Principal Investigator, Dann Mitchell. They will take a lead role in collaborating with the other institutions and project partners. The expectation is that they will publish 1-2 papers through the duration of the post.

You should apply if

Candidates should already possess a PhD in a closely related field with relevant PDRA experience. You will need to meet the essential criteria on the job specification.
