We are a busy 12 bedded critical care unit dealing with a wide variety of patients. As a team, we are committed to delivering first-class care to our patients and the ongoing professional development of our staff.

We are currently seeking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated staff to join our proactive team. To apply, you will need post-registration experience in an acute care setting. Previous ICU experience is desirable but not essential as full training in managing critically ill and high dependency patients will be given.

Main duties of the job

To practice as a safe and competent nurse and provide a high standard of care to patients within the Critical Care Unit. Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a safe environment and contribute to the continuing development of clinical practice. Develop your clinical expertise, leadership, and teaching skills through nursing practice.

Job responsibilities

Management of the critically ill patient. Actively participate as part of the team in providing a safe unit environment. Develop an extensive knowledge of critical care nursing. Maintain own clinical and professional development in Nursing and participate in performance review annually. Actively participate as part of the team in developing and providing evidence-based best practice. Work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies. Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients and their relatives, colleagues, and other members of the public. Actively listen to concerns or complaints raised by patients/relatives/carers and report to the nurse in charge or matron. Maintain confidentiality of patients and their relatives at all times. Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with NMC and Trust policy, protocols, and guidelines.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential First Level registration. Basic Life Support. IV Medicine Administration. Evidence of portfolio development.

Desirable Nursing Diploma / Degree. ALS. Mentors & Assessors course. Paediatric BLS. ALERT/REACT course. Preceptorship programme.

Experience

Essential Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to effectively organize own workload. Ability to prioritize clinical care needs. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Current experience of nursing patients in an acute hospital setting. Current knowledge of local and national developments in nursing. Experience and competency in IV medicine administration. An understanding of audit, essence of care, and productive ward.

Desirable Experience of working in ICU/HDU. Competency in management of: Arterial Lines Central Venous Catheters Tracheostomy

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Able to work well as part of a team. Patient-centered approach, caring attitude, and able to prioritize. Effective communication skills, able to relate well to all healthcare personnel, relatives, and carers. Commitment to provision of high-quality care and practice development. Ability to keep clear and accurate records of patient care in a timely manner.

Desirable Able to demonstrate competency in: Advanced Life Support Management of patient-controlled analgesia Performing a 12 lead ECG Understanding of the research process and able to discuss examples of evidence-based practice. Participation in quality initiatives and audit.
