Business Risk & Control Associate

to join our Business Control Team, within the Business Control & Governance team within the Asset Management function. The Role The Business Risk and Control Associate will support our Business Control Managers, overseeing a broad range of activities that contribute to the continuous improvement of AM’s Risk and Control environment, ensuring risks to our business are understood, that plans to remediate those risks are in place and being tracked and that senior stakeholders are suitably well informed. The successful candidate will support with line 1 Risk and Control activity. They will participate in ongoing interactions and collaboration with colleagues across the 3 Lines of Defence (3 LOD), building strong relationships and assisting with risk reviews, audits and other strategic activities as required by the Group. Key Responsibilities Maintaining an accurate record of the Business area's risks and controls in the Phoenix Group risk and control systems (GCM). Mapping of Group Risk Policy Control Objectives to the Key Controls that mitigate these. Ongoing oversight of the function's risk universe, ensuring key controls that mitigate these are attested to by relevant business owners via the quarterly Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process. Support in the documenting and monitoring of existing and emerging risks within the business and provide SME support in the design of high quality controls to mitigate those risks. Collaborate with Internal teams, Group Internal Audit and Line 2 in facilitating the closure of audit and other actions assigned to function in response to business reviews. Support in the function's assurance programme, undertaking regular reviews of the Risk and Control Environment. Ensuring that audit and other control findings are tracked and overseeing closure by management owners, escalating where necessary. Support Phoenix strategic change programmes and projects and help deliver a market leading asset management function within the UK's largest long-term savings and retirement business. Produce regular MI in relation to the Risk and Control Environment. Support with Risk Framework themes, for example Business Continuity, End User Computing Governance, Risk Champion optimisation, risk system optimisation etc. What we're looking for Minimum Requirements Experience (Essential) Experience of having worked in a risk and control functional area Line 1/ Line 2 Operational risk within the financial services industry (Asset Management preferred, but not essential). Excellent analytical skills with ability to evaluate audit and assurance reviews, and analyse large quantities of data. A record of building strong and reliable relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels. Proficient level of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience (Desirable) A broad understanding of Asset Management and/ or "front to back" trade flow processes and associated control activities. Personal Attributes / Skills Communication skills to interact with a range of stakeholders. Ability to assign priorities to multiple activities while ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness. Ability to learn new systems and concepts in a timely manner. Comfortable taking ownership of workstreams and managing stakeholders effectively. Excellent attention to detail and proactive can-do attitude. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Enthusiastic and positive approach, taking pride in output.
