The creation of the IPU Clinical & Environmental Assistant role is to support and assist the nursing staff in delivering a high standard of care. This role is to ensure that patients are cared for in a safe, welcoming and comforting environment and that a high quality of cleanliness is observed and maintained at all times in both patient and staff areas. The post is responsible for the monitoring of IPU equipment, provision of clean linen in line with patient needs, replenishing and organising delivered stock, minimising the risk of cross infection and complying with hospice health and safety regulations. In addition, the post holder will cultivate effective communication channels to ensure continuity of patient care and when required, carry out errands as instructed by nursing staff. Patient privacy and dignity must be respected at all times. Main duties of the job

Maintaining good housekeeping of treatment and storage areas by replenishing and organising stock as and when required whilst also working with housekeeping staff to ensure a high quality of cleanliness. Liaise with various departments and other members of staff and/or volunteers to ensure the expected standards of cleanliness of the ward is maintained. Contribute to the promotion of a safe working environment, reducing hospice acquired infection and complying with hospice operational policies and procedures. Maintain asset register, prepare equipment/appliances for servicing whilst also completing the required documentation and reporting faulty equipment/appliances. About us

Provide a level of customer care relevant to the needs of the patients and carers. Maintain good housekeeping of treatment and storage areas as required throughout the day, ensuring that stock is replenished and stored as necessary and ward areas are tidy. In conjunction with housekeeping staff, ensure that a high quality of cleanliness is observed within the In-patient unit, supporting with the audit of cleaning standards as required. Under the direction of the nurse, report any faulty equipment or appliances, ensuring preparation and completion of all relevant documentation prior to being sent for repair. Prepare and complete required documentation for equipment requiring servicing. Locate equipment and submit to CRH. Maintain asset register. Liaising with WA volunteers to ensure the necessary housekeeping and cleanliness of ward equipment is maintained. Undertake errands as required to support the service. Assist with patient audits e.g. friends and family / patient satisfaction. Liaise with linen service, coordinating stock replenishment as and when required. With support from nursing team undertake weekly RDC ordering. Maintain adequate departmental supplies, ensuring stock rotation of disposable equipment and the audit of expiry dates. Liaise with the supplies and estates departments as and when appropriate. Comply with Health and Safety regulations by undertaking all duties safely and responsibly. Contribute to the promotion of a safe working environment and participate in Moving and Handling, Food Hygiene, Waste Management and Fire Safety practices. Contribute to the reduction of hospice acquired infection by ensuring that all infection control standards for ward and personal hygiene are maintained. Under the direction of nursing staff, work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Comply with hospice operational policies and procedures and observe their requirements. Work within the hospice Clinical Governance Framework. Carry out all duties in a courteous, sympathetic and professional manner at all times. Respect patients' privacy and dignity, maintaining confidentiality at all times. Person Specification

Qualifications

Education to GCSE standard (or equivalent), to include Maths & English. Experience

Experience of using Microsoft Office. Experience of stock management and ordering. Experience of audit. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Organised approach to work and time management. Able to work on own and within a team. Willing to have a flexible approach to the role. Experience working in a health care/palliative care setting. Knowledge of clinical equipment. Awareness of hazardous materials, waste disposal, and the safe use of equipment. Knowledge of infection control measures, and their importance in a clinical environment. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
