Summary The Assistant Division Director of Solid Waste is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to key operational areas of the Solid Waste Division, including the business office, customer service, maintenance division, and recycling processing operations. This role serves as the marketing liaison, working to promote the division's services, engage the community, and support sustainable waste management initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong managerial skills, experience in solid waste operations, and a commitment to environmental sustainability and excellent customer service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides leadership and directs business manager and customer service staff to foster a culture of teamwork and accountability Monitors the financial operations of the division, including budgeting, billing, and financial reporting Supports the Director in strategic planning and fiscal management Supervises customer service teams, ensures timely and effective response to service requests, complaints, and inquiries Analyzes customer feedback to identify areas for service improvement Collaborates with the Director and other stakeholders to improve services, enhance operational performance, and ensure customer satisfaction across all areas of solid waste management Oversees maintenance of solid waste collection vehicles, equipment, facilities, and containers Ensures maintenance schedules are followed, and equipment is safe, reliable, and maintained Coordinates with fleet management and ensures compliance with safety regulations and operational standards Leads recycling program efforts, ensures efficient processing and maximization of recyclable material recovery Monitors performance of recycling facilities and programs and implements improvements to increase efficiency and participation Stays current on trends and best practices in recycling and waste diversion Serves as the marketing liaison to develop strategies to promote services and encourage waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability practices Collaborates with the City Communications and Marketing Department and leads public outreach efforts, including community events, educational campaigns, and media relations Works closely with local government, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance the division's visibility and impact Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, business management, public administration, or related field Four (4) years of experience in solid waste industry, recycling, public works, or a closely related field Three (3) years of experience working in a managerial role Thank you for your interest in the position.
