Can you do it?

The Laboratory Supervisor supports the daily running of the laboratory by directing the activities of the Laboratory Technicians to ensure the laboratory meets its targets and is available in the laboratory to respond to issues. Your duties will include: Supporting daily operation of the laboratory

Input to rota and task allocation against project and operational priorities and availability of personnel and equipment Co-ordinate daily activities of Laboratory Technicians including adjustment of duties in line with available resources of changing priorities Supporting a safe, efficient working environment adhering to quality and other relevant standards

Troubleshoot equipment issues Undertake regular checks to ensure the laboratory is maintained as required Complete internal stock checks and ordering to ensure the laboratory has the stock required across all projects First point of contact for equipment issues Prepare, update and review SOPs and other laboratory documentation Work collaboratively with the Laboratory Team to deliver laboratory objectives

Work closely with other senior laboratory roles in relation to operational laboratory matters such as training and competency, sample management, quality, and R&D etc Support activities around project implementation such as updating documentation, equipment checks, test new processes People management

Input to activities around the engagement and motivation of direct reports and the entire laboratory team Line manage, support and coach Laboratory Technicians and Senior Laboratory Technicians Working hours are 35 Hours, 5 shifts a week, Monday - Sunday, including Bank Holidays. Located in Greater Manchester (initially based in Stockport with a move to Manchester Science Park mid 2026).

Is this ‘You’?

Reporting to the Assistant Laboratory Manager you will have a BSc in a relevant life sciences discipline or equivalent laboratory experience and experience of: Working in a laboratory at a supervisory level or similar Coaching or mentoring someone Working to the requirements of a relevant ISO standard (e.g. ISO9001, ISO17025, ISO15189, ISO27001), GxP or equivalent Creating and maintaining laboratory documentation, especially SOPs Using a LIMS product or equivalent complex information system supporting scientific work Excellent organisational skills with experience responding to changes in priorities Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels Experience of training and/or developing staff User of Microsoft Office including – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Teams User of automated liquid handling systems including troubleshooting / process development Our passion for diversity and equality means creating a work environment for all employees that is welcoming, respectful, engaging, and enriched with opportunities for personal and professional development.
