Acute Medical Unit (AMU) - 51 beds: An Acute Medical Unit is a specialized ward within a hospital. Its primary purpose is to provide quick and efficient assessment, treatment, and medical care for patients, acting as a bridge between a patient’s general practitioner, the emergency department, and other wards within the hospital. Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) – 7 Beds: The Medical Assessment Unit provides access to care via a number of pathways, focusing on directly referred GP patients (medically expected patients) as well as those medically referred by the Emergency Department team. Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC): Same day emergency care (SDEC) is designed to allow specialists, where possible, to care for patients within the same day of arrival as an alternative to hospital admission, removing delays for patients requiring further investigation and/or treatment. SDEC operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year, from 8:00 to 22:00, and is run by a dedicated team of registrars and doctors, and supervised by a Consultant. The unit provides rapid assessment, investigation, and treatment for patients who have been admitted by the Emergency Department and those referred by General Practitioners from the community.
