An opportunity has arisen for a 12-month fixed-term Senior Clinical Perfusionist position within the Clinical Perfusion Department at UHNM. The successful applicant will have full UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion and at least three years of experience post-qualification or be able to demonstrate suitable exposure. Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities: Clinically manage and control the temporary replacement of a patient’s cardiopulmonary function to enable cardiac surgery. Operate auxiliary equipment for patient safety and effective clinical outcomes. Assist in the development and management of the Department of Clinical Perfusion. Participate in the “on-call” and late duty rotas. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Choose the most appropriate equipment and disposable items for procedures. Prepare equipment for cardiopulmonary bypass for routine and emergency cardiac surgery. Operate the heart-lung machine and auxiliary equipment to maintain the patient’s clinical condition. Prepare and operate equipment for autologous blood salvage procedures. Prepare and operate equipment for intra-aortic balloon catheter insertion. Undertake and interpret blood gas analysis. Maintain and calibrate equipment, keeping relevant departmental records. Conduct educational and training sessions with other staff. Complete departmental and clinical records accurately. Directly supervise trainee perfusionists and assist in their development.
