Join our team as a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse within the Acute Cardiac Unit for a period of 9 months for maternity cover at the James Paget University Hospital Foundation Trust where you will oversee the daily operations of the nursing team, ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Main duties of the job

Working in collaboration with the Matron, you will support leadership and provide guidance and mentorship to the nursing team as well as ensuring compliance with the relevant quality and safety standards. Your leadership and communication skills will be essential in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that empowers the nursing team to achieve their full potential. In addition, you will be required to work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Acute Cardiac Unit.

Job responsibilities

Ensure safe and effective practice by adhering to NMC guidelines for practice requirements and standards, including safe handling, administration, storage, and custody of medicines. Ensure that organisational goals are reflected in personal and team objectives. Maintain professional development in accordance with NMC Code (2015) and standards. Establish and maintain relationships based on mutual respect with patients, relatives, and carers. Promote a culture of research and evidence-based practice within the department. Ensure a safe and clean environment by complying with health and safety regulations. Act as a visible leader within the department, empowering staff to deliver high-quality person-centred care. Manage the ward/department environment effectively, ensuring appropriate delegation and monitoring of outcomes. Deliver a safe service within allocated resources, adhering to financial policies.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential Registered Nurse on NMC register Nursing Degree/Diploma acceptable if suitably experienced

Desirable Further studies at masters level in relevant subject Leadership qualification ALS

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Significant experience in Cardiology Demonstrates effective leadership Demonstrates knowledge of current professional issues in Cardiology Can evidence continuous professional development

Desirable Demonstrates strong leadership skills Demonstrates excellent communication and personal skills
