Band 5 Staff Nurse - Davenport Ward Service/Ward/Department Summary: We are looking for an experienced mental health nurse with a passion and interest in older age mental health. Experience is required in order to support our junior newly qualified staff on the ward. Davenport Ward is a 20 bedded female functional ward at The Meadows in Offerton, Stockport. We deliver outstanding care to people who are living with a functional mental illness who are admitted for an assessment of their needs. We will then work with the families and carers on a discharge pathway that supports both the people living with their mental illness and their families and carers. Davenport Ward is a challenging and rewarding environment and we aim to offer the best care we can provide to both the people living with dementia and those that support them. We are supported by a full multidisciplinary team of Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychology, occupational therapy and social workers.

Main duties of the job Role Summary: As a qualified nurse you would be a vital member of the team in delivering person centred care to those admitted onto the ward. You will be working with people who can be very distressed and display some very challenging behaviours. It will be your responsibility to provide reassurance and distraction, using care and compassion, for the people living with dementia. You will also be responsible for a wide range of tasks such as care planning and implementation, risk assessment, physical health assessment, liaising with the wider MDT, ward rounds and you will be a named nurse. Key Responsibilities of the Post: Provide Safe and Effective Care Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care Treat those living with mental illness as individuals Strive to provide an outstanding service Be clear about the ward vision and the role that the qualified nurse plays within the team Engage in learning and development and provide mentorship to others Contribute to growth through regular supervision and annual appraisal Be a member of a team, establishing your own role within that team To be a leader, setting an example for others members within the team Adhere to all Trust policies, procedures and guidelines

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential First level registered nurse, RMN or RN in Mental Health Must have a good understanding of both innumeracy and language skills.
