Job Description

At Heathrow, we aim to lead in airport safety, ensuring everyone's health and safety. The Health and Safety Advisor will assist in managing risks, understanding our safety culture, and tracking performance. Reporting to the FHS Systems and Standards Manager, the advisor will develop and execute a Fire, Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (FHSW) checking programme, addressing various risks. They will also help create and update FHSW standards and guidance, ensuring high safety standards. Collaborating with operational safety leads, Trade Union H&S Representatives, and the FHSW Team, the advisor supports continuous improvement within Heathrow's Safety Management System to meet ISO 45001:2018 standards and achieve world-class safety performance.

This is a 12 month FTC opportunity.

Responsibilities Helping to set up a strong assurance programme that checks how well Fire, Health and Safety Standards are met and how effective the controls are, finding ways to improve FHSW across Heathrow and make it better all the time. Supporting the H&S audits of suppliers and activities of companies operating at Heathrow airport. Ensuring assurance and SMS reporting data required for governance is available in a timely manner. Supporting the development of visual tools (dashboards) and governance reports to ensure data enables effective decision making. Supporting the coordination and delivery of 3rd line of defence and External ISO 45001:2018 audits. Supporting in the development and review of FHSW Standards and Guidance. Reporting and escalating any emerging or uncontrolled risks identified through audit to enable timely action to address the issues highlighted. Being responsible for the review and continual improvement of the FHS Assurance process. Qualifications

Safety professional with experience gained ideally in a 24/7, high-volume footfall environment, e.g. transport, manufacturing. National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). Holding or working towards the National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). Internal or Lead auditor certificate and experience with ISO 45001:2018 and experienced in audit processes and delivery of programmes. Experience of working with Safety Management systems across complex/large organisations. Experience in working with both internal and external stakeholders, at different levels of seniority. Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, preferably as a Chartered Member (or working towards). Experience developing and reviewing Fire, Health and Safety Policy, Standards or Guidance. Ideally you will have:

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
