The Council Revenues and Benefits Service is responsible for Billing, Collection and Recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates and Housing Benefit Overpayment & Sundry Debt.

We are looking to appoint a permanent, full-time Revenues Inspector to the Complaints, Tracing & Inspections Team. The post will be 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday and will be based at Howden House in Sheffield City Centre. We currently operate a hybrid working pattern with the expectation of a minimum 20% attendance in office.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and positive individual to work as part of the team. The role is primarily to undertake inspections of residential properties throughout the whole of the Sheffield area for the purpose of accurately billing dwellings for Council Tax and potentially Business Rates if required. Additionally, to undertake other duties as appropriate including accurate interrogation and interpretation of reports from both internal departments and external bodies and partners.

We welcome collaborative thinkers and excellent communicators who are enthusiastic to work in conjunction across sections and can demonstrate a clear customer focus with established customer service skills balanced with effective service delivery.

For this role you will need a range of skills and experience, including: Experience in a visiting/inspection role either currently or in a previous position. Experience of and an in-depth working knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates. Experience and knowledge of accurate Billing, Collection and Recovery processes across teams and various income streams. Additionally, an understanding and knowledge of maximising revenue for the authority. Excellent I.T. skills. A good understanding of Microsoft Office 365 applications particularly Excel and Word are essential. It would also be desirable for the applicant to have experience of Revenues & Benefits processing systems. Experience and knowledge of a customer-focused approach to service delivery, balanced with the needs of the service users. Experience of dealing with internal & external customers via all available communication channels. Desirable to have access to your own transport and a full UK driving license.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement, a flexible working scheme and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
