Purpose of the job
We are looking for someone with extensive knowledge and practical application of mechanical engineering within highly regulated industry sectors.
The Senior Engineer defines and distributes the scope of work and ensures that the project is executed safely, on time and at appropriate levels of quality and is responsible for the delivery of engineering to meet the requirements technical specification.
In addition to project specific responsibilities, the Senior Engineer will also have responsibilities including the supervision of less experienced engineering employees, input into engineering resource management, recruitment and tendering support.
Reports to
Principal Engineer or the Project Engineering Manager / Nominated Engineer depending on the complexity of the project assignment.
Key Accountabilities
Delivery of mechanical engineering scope to satisfy the technical specification
Potential to lead teams for the full project lifecycle, including Specification, Design, Procurement, Supply/Manufacture Liaison, Installation, Acceptance Testing, Commissioning and Operator Training in Nuclear Engineering Projects
Production of and approval of deliverables throughout the delivery process
Checking/approval of discipline specific engineering deliverables
Contribution to engineering and safety reviews
Ensuring quality and prompt delivery of documentation throughout all phases of the project lifecycle
Compliance with safety legislation and statutory regulations
Develop cost effective technical solutions
Staff development
Managing safety by developing and reinforcing the safety culture
Management of contractors
Provide technical consultancy
Duties and Requirements
Essential
Strong understanding of the fundamentals within your engineering discipline
Previous experience of working within the nuclear industry (this is desirable but not essential if transferrable skills are demonstrated)
Proven track record of successfully delivering mechanical engineering solutions within a highly regulated industry
Working knowledge of plant layout, set up, installation and alignment of plant, equipment and machinery for works test, integrated test, site installation and commissioning
Understanding of the requirements to support safety led designs and associated regulatory compliance
Good understanding of wider industry safety legislation and statutory regulations
Understanding of modern delivery practices, for example BIM compliance, RIBA/BSRIA design delivery stage gates, etc
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
Good level of commercial awareness
Experience of leading design teams
Experience of managing sub-contracts
Desirable
Full membership of a discipline specific engineering institution
A full UK driving licence
Experience of bid preparation
An understanding of Nuclear Industry Design Substantiation
