Ngāi Tahu Farming is seeking an exceptional Head of Farming to provide strategic and operational leadership across our diverse farming operations. This role is key to driving excellence in dairy, dairy support, and grazing systems while embedding Ngāi Tahu values in everything we do.
About the Role:
Reporting to the General Manager - Farming & Forestry, the Head of Farming is a senior leadership role with accountability for the performance, sustainability, and cultural alignment of Ngāi Tahu Farming's operations. You will work closely with operational leaders and stakeholders to ensure farming practices meet our strategic goals and reflect the aspirations of Ngāi Tahu Whānui.
This will include:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement strategies ensuring profitability, sustainability, and alignment with Ngāi Tahu values and aspirations. Operational Excellence:
Drive efficient, innovative farming operations, adhering to best practices in agriculture and environmental stewardship. Financial Oversight:
Manage budgets, performance, and resources to achieve strong financial outcomes. Cultural Integration:
Foster practices reflecting kaitiakitanga, whanaungatanga, and rangatiratanga across operations. Innovation and Sustainability:
Promote technologies and sustainable practices to enhance productivity and environmental outcomes. People Leadership:
Mentor and lead a high performing, culturally aligned operations team. Health, Safety, and Well-being:
Cultivate a strong culture of safety and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. About You: A visionary leader with extensive experience in large-scale farming operations, excelling in strategic oversight and operational delivery. You thrive on creating sustainable, innovative solutions aligned with organizational values. Your Experience and Skills: Leadership:
10+ years in senior agricultural operations, with expertise in dairy, grazing, or mixed farming systems. Strategic Thinking:
Proven ability to execute long-term plans that drive growth and sustainability. Cultural Competence:
Understanding of, or willingness to learn, Ngāi Tahu values, tikanga, and te reo Māori. Financial Acumen:
Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to balance profitability with sustainability. Project Management:
Experience leading complex projects and driving continuous improvements. Stakeholder Engagement:
Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams, iwi, and industry stakeholders. A tertiary qualification in agriculture, agribusiness, or a related field is desirable.
