A long-established full life-cycle manufacturer is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to interpret the needs of the customers, providing innovative solutions within challenging timescales and budgets. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will design and develop quality bespoke automation machinery within budget and on time.

You will be either degree qualified or HNC/Apprentice trained with attention to detail, a creative thinker, problem solver with a can-do attitude, good interpersonal skills, and a finisher. Competent in 3D CAD/SolidWorks with 2+ years' exposure developing custom automation or special purpose machinery.

A good understanding of materials, motion control, robotics, sensors and drives, structures and dynamics and how these are used in machine design is essential. A high level of IT literacy with good written and confident communication skills is also required.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Ensure the Engineering Change Request (ECR) system is maintained and functions according to the Quality System. Undertake ECR in a timely manner, ensuring good communication and document control. Liaise with engineers from other disciplines, e.g. Controls, to ensure a complete solution is achieved. Use 3D and 2D CAD design tools to produce individual drawings and drawing packs, on time, for use in the procurement of parts and assembly of machines. Produce drawings to BS8888 and other company quality standards. Undertake mechanical calculations to substantiate and prove design concepts and drawings. Select likely suppliers and justify their selection against price, delivery, and quality criteria. Produce cost estimates for parts and assemblies. Produce bills of materials for use in procuring parts and purchase parts as necessary within company guidelines. Produce project documentation and maintain a technical project file. Communicate with both external and internal customers to ensure design solutions are understood. Implement, as necessary, design solutions through build, integrating and testing. Work within and understand the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO standards. Work within all other company systems and protocols. Support sales bids and client meetings.
