York Gate is a Grade II listed art and crafts garden spread over an acre just outside of Leeds. With a mixture of tropical and exotic plants, seasonal borders and bed and a wildflower meadow, York Gate boasts beautiful gardens, a café and a gift shop and hosts large numbers of visitors each year. In 2024 we were recognised in the Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Awards as one of the top 10% attractions in the world.

We are now looking for a Chef / Assistant Catering Manager to join our friendly and passionate team at York Gate, on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role As the Chef / Assistant Catering Manager, you will develop and cook seasonal menus using fresh produce from our kitchen garden and prepare daily homemade cakes, scones, and traybakes.

Supporting and deputising for the Catering Manager, you will share responsibility for the café's day-to-day operations, ensuring consistent professional service and a welcoming environment for customers and volunteers.

Additionally, you will:

Lead food preparation Ensure food hygiene standards are met Assist in stock management and ordering Organise training Maintain health and safety records Oversee dietary and allergen requirements to provide a safe and inclusive service

About You To be considered as the Chef / Assistant Catering Manager, you will need: A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate Varied paid experience in the food service industry, including food preparation, ordering, budgeting, and stock control Strong customer service and communication skills Passion for food, creativity, and the ability to organise and lead effectively Flexibility to work seasonal and weekend hours
