Customs Manager

who has experience within a senior management role, along with an excellent knowledge of the customs clearance documentation needed for UK and international deliveries, both import and export, via road/ air or sea freight.

This role will involve managing a team responsible for completing customs entries onto the company's internal database and HMRC portal. You will monitor performance, train and coach individuals, as well as completing 121s and development plans. The successful candidate must have managed people that are completing documentation for both UK and international deliveries, with a solid knowledge of forms and documents needed for shipping. This includes T-1 forms, consignment notes, commodity codes, and certificates of origin for EU import/ export.

Customs Manager Duties and Responsibilities: Managing a team of Custom Agents that are responsible for arranging and ensuring all customers have completed direct representation form for UK and International shipping. Ensuring the team are extracting full details of requirements taken from customs-based templates or commercial invoices. Liaison with EU agents, and provision of details in required format to raise any EU imports or exports. Quality checking of all documents received from outsourced requirements. Reviewing job booking requirements against commercial invoices. Ensuring all necessary export, import and T-1 documents are being raised for smooth delivery for customers. Ensuring the timely issuing of customs documents back to the international operations team. Liaison with International operational team management, managing all customs requirements. Giving feedback to the international team on any missing requirements. Acting as a senior point of contact for international team for urgent requirements. Ensuring your team have been updating and processing documents within customs run sheets on time, giving full awareness of operational progress and costs for viewing by the operational team. Monitoring the number of customs documents raised, pending, financials and any issues. Creating reports for the Senior Management team, presenting during management meetings on performance, progress, raising any issues. Problem management, handling any escalated issues for export and import whilst deliveries are in transit.

Customs Manager Essential Experience: Proven experience of having worked in a management role within logistics or Export/ Import role, with excellent customs documentation knowledge including international deliveries. A solid understanding use of export documents including T forms, Certificates of Origin, Commodity codes and use or understanding of the HMRC system. Experience of liaising with 3rd party haulage firms and courier services. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. High level of customer service awareness, confident and able to coach team members in correct manner of handling customers as well as complaints. Being able to organise and prioritise your own workload as well as your team's including delegation of tasks.

Desirable but not Essential: Having knowledge of import/ export entry declaration processing experience, as well as CDS knowledge, Transit document knowledge and TSS experience.
