The post holder will have overall responsibility for the operational management of clinical service delivery at ward level for Delivery Suite. They will provide excellent leadership and support for the team acting as a lead role model to ensure the provision of excellent women centred evidence based, quality care. The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership to those working in roles up to and including band 6 level. They will be a highly skilled clinical expert with specialised knowledge in caring for women. The post holder will work with the matron for Delivery Suite to further develop the service. Main Duties of the Job

To provide effective clinical and professional leadership to all midwives, support staff, students and the multidisciplinary team working on Delivery Suite. To have key responsibility for the co-ordination and development of team activities in the delivery suite setting to ensure the delivery of a cost-effective, efficient and quality service. Work in collaboration with the Delivery Suite Matron, Clinical Midwifery Manager, Head of Midwifery, lead Obstetrician and other key members of the team to ensure pathways of care reflect best practice and are women centred. Job Responsibilities

To provide effective clinical leadership and support to all midwives, support staff and students working on Delivery Suite, continually seeking to develop the service to reflect service and Trust objectives. To promote excellence in practice, providing expert advice, developing and ensuring practice is evidence based and to be actively involved in research and audit. To support with operational management of the maternity unit (Manager of the Day) and hold the bleep when the rota requires. Weekend working may be required in exceptional circumstances. Demonstrate innovation through the introduction and maintenance of a quality approach to service provision by setting, implementing, monitoring and evaluating standards of care. Undertake necessary audits. Collect, collate and where needed present clinical and operational data for the service and contribute to the service dashboard. Be responsible for overseeing staff duty rotas (completed by the rota co-ordinator) to ensure Delivery Suite has appropriate staff, skill mix and to provide safe care within available resources. Possessing the knowledge to deal with complaints and handling sensitive issues. Working closely with the Delivery Suite Matron and Band 7 coordinator to ensure incidents are reported appropriately and reviewed. Take the lead for the management of reported Inphase reports pertaining to the Labour Ward. Work with the Clinical Midwifery Manager in the ongoing investigations of reported issues. Ensure there is effective multi-disciplinary communication within Delivery Suite, the department, the service and with other agencies external to the Trust. Participates in the selection process for new staff and student midwives. Plan and initiate induction and orientation programmes, which integrate newly qualified and new members of staff alongside the Education Team. Undertakes annual appraisal of midwives, build personal development plans with midwives and empower midwives to achieve their objectives by providing ongoing support and expert leadership. Responsible for the operational management of personnel issues such as the management of sickness absence, including interviewing staff following each episode of sickness, and take appropriate action in line with Trust policy. Work in collaboration with midwifery and nursing leads for Safeguarding Children. Where appropriate initiate and support others in taking action in accordance with local Safeguarding policies. Qualifications

Registered Midwife Recognised Teaching Qualification Evidence of Degree or masters qualification ALSO (Advanced Life Support Obstetrics) Newborn Life Support (NLS) Course Experience

Suitable Post-Registration experience within relevant speciality at band 6 or above Extensive clinical experience In depth knowledge of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal high risk pathways Evidence of the application of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice Evidence of continued professional development Budget and resource management Knowledge

Teaching /assessment skills Organisational and negotiation skills Evidence of audit and change management ability Ability to motivate self and others Lead and facilitate change Experience with research Personal Skills
